A cadaver heart donation was done at A.J.Hospital & Research Center, Mangaluru on February 21. The organs were transported to Mangaluru airport through zero traffic and then by flight to Bangalore.
Mr.Sathish, age 27 years, who met with a road accident on February 18 near Karkala bypass. He was taken to a private hospital in Karkala first after first-aid, then he was shifted to AJ Hospital on February 19. As Mr.Sathish had suffered grievous injuries, on February 20, he was declared brain-dead.
Mr.Sathish, hailing from Padumarnadu, Moodbidri, was the son of Raghava Achar, a carpenter by profession, and Sulochana. He has two brothers Rajesh, a carpenter, and Mukesh, a gold smith. Sathish too was a carpenter.
After Mr.Sathish was declared brain-dead, his family offered to donate his organs.It was then immediately conveyed to the Zonal Coordination Committee of Karnataka (ZCCK) for transplantation. The retrieval team and the recipient list for the organs were then processed. The team came from Bengaluru to retrieve the organs after all the legal approval was taken.
Mr.Satish’s heart was retrieved at AJ Hospital and was taken to M.S.Ramaiah Hospital, Bengaluru. His liver will be taken to Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru, and one kidney will be handed over to KMC, Manipal, while the other kidney would be transplanted at AJ Hospital.
